Father Jocleilson Sebastião da Silva
Priest of the Diocese of Barreiras, in western Bahia. Now in Goiânia, he is spiritual formator and director of academic life at the São João Maria Vianney Interdiocesan Seminary, teaches at IFITEG and at PUC Goiás and, in his doctorate in Religious Studies, researches what faith has to say in the age of artificial intelligence.

Ordained in 2011, he served for eight years as parish priest and first rector of the Diocesan Shrine of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro, in Barreiras, seeing through the complete renovation of the church and its elevation to a shrine. Vicar general of the Diocese since 2023. In January 2026 he became spiritual formator and director of academic life at the São João Maria Vianney Interdiocesan Seminary, in Goiânia, where he lives with the seminarians he accompanies.

Philosophy at PUC Goiás and at the Pontifical Gregorian University, in Rome, with the thesis on Popper and Lakatos. Theology in Goiânia. Graduate certificates in Philosophy and Legal Theory and in Educational Psychology. Now the doctorate in Religious Studies, between Heidegger and Byung-Chul Han, on digital religiosity, the “religiously unaffiliated” and artificial intelligence.

From the parish to the seminary, he has conceived tools for the life of the Church: the academic monitoring of seminarians, the transfer protocol and the forms of the Diocese, and a research tool that reads the sentiments of those who comment on faith online.

Faith and artificial intelligence
In May 2026, Leo XIV signed Magnifica Humanitas, the first encyclical devoted to the human person in the age of artificial intelligence. This is the ground on which Father Jocleilson works: how the Church thinks about, receives and sets limits to a technology that already mediates the prayer, the preaching and the doubts of a great many people.
